The Rundown: Jonathan and Kath are trying to find an escape from their infested land, but revenge is on one of their minds.

It is the opening days of a zombie apocalypse in Lima and Jonathan and Kath are traveling together looking for a way to escape by sea. After encountering one of the infected, they find themselves on the run from a horde as they head to a local marina club where they rescue a man named Angel who knows a way for them to leave, but it will require facing a local gang leader. A gang leader Kath knows all too well.

As Kath plans to kill the man who took someone she cared about, Jonathan finds himself trying to hold onto his humanity by helping those he thinks are being held as slaves. When Kath learns the brutal truth from the gang leader about Angel, she must fight her need for revenge and her desire to save Jonathan and head to sea before more zombies arrive.

The Story: Yacolca crafts a thoughtful, intense and entertaining story. There are great layers of both theme and character throughout and I love that there is so much beneath the surface of what could have been a standard zombie escape story. There are psychological themes that are explored through Jonathan and Kath’s emotional journey is compelling. I like the fact that the story has so many rich and complex characters and emotions within it and I would love to see more stories from this world and with these characters.

The Art: Lino delivers beautiful art throughout the issue. I love the visual style and how it draws on and enhances the emotions of the scenes and themes of the story.
